Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 20th, 2000) is an American actress and singer. Her career spanned more 40 years. London is a torch singer loved for her smooth, mellow vocals and smooth contralto voice was a recording artist on more than thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955-1969. Her recording of "Cry Me a River" which she released on her debut album was admitted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her part as Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her career began as an actress , while she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's 35-year-long acting career began around 1944 with roles in movies. These included roles as the lead female character in many westerns. She also starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. She released her final studio album in the year 1969, however, she was able to continue to make a name for herself as the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), in which she acted with her husband Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
