Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaking. Feminist Frequency is a website that hosts videos and posts commentary looking at the portrayal of women by the media and in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has won awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. She is the creator and director-executive of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit website that focuses on the role of women's roles in popular stories of culture. She's dedicated to breaking down stereotypes of women as they appear in popular media. In addition, she seeks to educate people about cyber-bullying targeting women and marginalized groups of individuals. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political and social thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she's extremely sought-after and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. As a child Sarkeesian was intrigued by questions of gender identity as well as feminist thought. While still at school in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency Website. The site was about to launch a series of online videos that examined the gender representations in video games at the time she came under the sway of online bullying. The attack did not stop her, but instead strengthened her commitment to be feminist critique of the media. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades due to her notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award awarded media critic, and creator of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization focused on the representations of women in pop-culture and the narratives that surround them.
